Studio Laÿn is a design and research practice exploring the relationship between ordinary and extraordinary experiences in architecture. We work across a range of projects, from intimate renovations to large-scale public interventions, always searching for opportunities to reveal the richness and potential of each place we touch.

At Studio Laÿn, we believe architecture is more than building; it is a way to engage with context, history, and the everyday world.

We collaborate with individuals, communities, and public institutions, crafting environments that respond to cultural context and personal stories. Our work is rooted in thoughtfulness and care, using materials, light, and form to create spaces that not only function but also invite quiet reflection and connection.

Studio Laÿn was founded by Mehdi Mousavinasab and Sudeh Akhondi, who bring years of experience working in Iran and in the Netherlands. They have completed a wide range of projects, from residential and cultural spaces to hospitals and commercial renovations, each marked by a balance of conceptual clarity and practical craftsmanship.

Their work in Iran has been recognized by several Memar Awards, highlighting their skill in transforming existing structures and crafting nuanced new spaces. Since moving to the Netherlands, they have contributed to leading architecture firms such as Biermanhenket and Loer Architecten and participated in teaching and research initiatives. Mehdi’s graduation project was nominated for the Archiprix 2022 in the Netherlands, reflecting his commitment to blending design with critical thinking.

Together, they share a fascination with in-between spaces—thresholds that connect public and private, past and present, structure and atmosphere. Their approach combines a deep respect for context with an openness to new ideas, resulting in architecture that bridges the ordinary and the extraordinary.
